Battle of North Durham thriller as Bruins claw their way to a win

The Uxbridge Bruins saved their best for last on Sunday, Feb. 26. Though they only lead for 12 seconds of the game, they were at the end of a dramatic comeback win when Matt Gordon scored a late goal to break a 3-3 tie at Scugog Arena.
Both teams were looking to bounce back coming Sunday’s matinee match-up with the Lumberjacks falling 8-1 on the road against Little Britain on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Bruins were coming off a pair of defeats at the Bear Den, a 4-1 setback against North Kawartha on Monday and a 2-0 loss to Little Britain on Friday night in the final home game of the regular season.
The home side struck first, jumping out to an early 2-0 advantage before Quinn Meek drew the Bruins to within one. Port Perry pushed their lead to 3-1 early in the middle frame. However, with just 15 seconds left on the clock, Quinn Meek scored again, giving Uxbridge a huge momentum swing heading into the third period. Declan Meek would tie the game just over halfway through the third, and with just 12 seconds remaining, Matt Gordon brought the Bruins all the way back for another thrilling win for Uxbridge in the Battle Of North Durham.
Noah Acciaccaferri made several spectacular saves in the second half of the game to keep the Port Perry offence grounded. In total, Acciaccaferri made 38 saves en route to his 15th win of the season. It was also the 30th career PJHL victory for the veteran netminder.
This week, the Bruins wrap up the regular season with a Friday night trip to Keswick to square off against the Georgina Ice.
