Bruins maul Golden Hawks 7-0

On Friday, October 18, 2024, the Uxbridge Bruins delivered a commanding 7-0 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks at the Uxbridge Arena in Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Orr Division action. The Bruins’ offensive onslaught, combined with stellar goaltending, marked their second consecutive home victory after a 7-1 win the previous Friday against the Little Britain Merchants.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the first period, netting three goals, from captain Tanner Ryan, Nolan Winter, and Jordan Bonner, who continued his strong scoring start to his junior hockey career, contributing his third goal of the season. On his team’s performance, Ryan stated, “Our guys really bought in tonight, especially on the power play. We were focused on moving the puck quickly and capitalizing on their penalties.”

In the second period, Uxbridge added four more goals, including two power-play markers. Jack Kemp, Will Stratos, Colin Glecoff, and Ryan scored second period goals for the Bruins. Coach Chris Kerr was impressed with his team’s discipline and effort, saying, “We stayed aggressive throughout the game, especially when we had the man advantage. I’m proud of how we maintained our intensity, even in the final period when the game was in hand.”

Eamon Callaghan was unbeatable in net, stopping all 26 shots for the shutout. The Golden Hawks struggled offensively, unable to convert any of their five power-play opportunities.

Kerr also reflected on the team’s back-to-back wins at home, adding, “Winning two in a row at home really boosts the locker room. It’s about building momentum, and I think we’ve done that well over these last two games.”

The Uxbridge Bruins are looking to continue their strong start as they build on their performance in the Orr Division standings this Friday night, Oct. 25th, at the Bear Den at 7:45 p.m. when we host the archrival Port Perry Lumberjacks in a Battle Of North Durham.
