Bruins advance to Cougar Cup Orr Division Championship

What a difference a week can make.

Last Saturday night, the Bruins found themselves humbled in a 5-1 loss to the Merchants in Little Britain. Just seven days later, Uxbridge was on top of the hockey world with a remarkable 4-2 win to eliminate the Merchants in six games and punch their ticket to the Cougar Cup championship round against the Clarington Eagles.

On the heels of a dramatic 1-0 overtime win in Uxbridge on Thursday night, the Merchants attacked the Bruins relentlessly in the first period, and held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. A powerplay goal from Stellucio Basile would even the score in the second period. Quinn Meek broke the deadlocked less than two minutes into the third period with his team-leading 10th goal of the postseason. Then, Uxbridge caught a break when Josh Schmidt intercepted a clearing attempt and swooped into the offensive zone to score a game-changing shorthanded goal. The Merchants would make a late push, but with mere second remaining, Alex Hyde stepped over the red line and fired the puck into the empty net to seal the win and the series for Uxbridge. Noah Acciaccaferri was once again spectacular between the pipes for the Bruins, turning aside 40 shots.

The series with Clarington gets underway on Thursday night at 7:25 in Bowmanville. The Bruins are still working through the details for our home opener Game 2 on Friday night at the Bear Den, and we will release details as soon as possible.
